Bio
Lena Tashjian teaches IB English to eleventh graders and College Prep English to twelfth graders at Baltimore City College High School, an urban, public school in Baltimore, Maryland. Though she has taught in Baltimore for seven years, she has also had the opportunity to teach at both public and private schools in France, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Armenia and India. Ms. Tashjian had the honor of winning an Institute of International Education grant to travel to the Galapagos Islands where she studied environmental education. From that experience, she started an environmental club and a recycling program at her school. Ms. Tashjian also received an International Research and Exchange grant to travel to Armenia and used that experience as an opportunity to integrate Armenian-American literature into her curriculum. Lena received her undergraduate degree in English and Psychology from the University of Virginia before going on to Duke where she received her Master’s degree in Teaching. This year, she completed a Master’s degree in English from Middlebury College and became a National Board certified teacher. Her participation in the Educational Seminars teacher exchange program is a product of her dedication to international education.
